2014 / 10 / 21

The CAPA Asia Aviation Summit & LCC Congress 2014 and CAPA Aviation Awards for Excellence – Asia Pacific, organized by CAPA Centre for Aviation, was held on the 13th – 15th October 2014 in Singapore. In the awards ceremony, Macau International Airport (MIA) won the CAPA Aviation Awards for Excellence – “Asia Pacific Small International Airport of the Year (<15m+pax) for 2014”. Ms. Emma Tang, Deputy Director of Marketing Department of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) represented to attend the award ceremony and received the honor.

CAPA's Aviation Awards for Excellence, regarded as the pre-eminent awards for the outstanding performances of aviation enterprises, awarded airlines and airports that were not only successful but also played the role of leadership in adjusting to a new environment.  At a time of industry upheaval, the winners adopted strategies which offered new directions for others to take up.  “Macau is on pace to grow passenger traffic by over 10% in 2014 for the second consecutive year”, said Mr Peter Harbison who presented award to MIA. “The airport’s management has successfully encouraged and attracted low-cost carriers, establishing an LCC penetration rate that is among the highest in North Asia. Its leadership has adopted a pragmatic approach to cost, providing the framework for further LCC expansion”. This award also recognized that MIA handled 1 million LCC passengers in the first 8 months of 2014, stimulating growth in inbound visitor traffic and boosting the local economy.

After the “CAPA International Airport of the Year” awarded in 2004, and the “CAPA Aviation Awards for Excellence – Airport Marketing” awarded in 2012, this is the third time MIA has won the CAPA Aviation Awards for Excellence.
