Macau International Airport Ramp Safety Campaign 2021
Macau International Airport (MIA) has always been committed to ensure the ramp activities are carried out safely by sparing no effort in eliminating potential hazards and avoiding human error contribute greatly to prevent accidents and incidents. Ramp Safety Campaign 2021 was held from 8th to 12th November 2021, addressed topics including common human errors, situational awareness during works, runway safety concerns and apron operation best practices. During the COVID-19 pandemic, proper social distance between people is required with necessity to avoid gathering. To cope with relevant epidemic prevention measures, the Ramp Safety Campaign this year continued to proceed in the form of webinar, inviting experts and colleagues from different airport entities to join the campaign through the internet, while Safety Office of Airport Operations Department (AOD), Fortuna Jet Aviation Company Limited and Runway Safety Team of MIA have shared their valuable experience with participants.
During the webinar, AOD Safety Manager Mr. Justin Ip reviewed the annual safety targets and reminded staff operating vehicles or ground support equipment (GSEs) to perform vehicles and equipment pre-checking and testing before operation, while shared the Do’s and Don’ts on apron, and the importance of maintaining vigilant over situational awareness. Safety Office has also emphasized how safety reporting was crucial in our daily operation for safety enhancement. Chief Operating Officer of Fortuna Jet Aviation Company Limited Mr. Warren Chim was invited to share about the common causes of human factor errors which were usually neglected to result catastrophic accidents and reminded participants that consequences of human errors should not be underestimated. Besides, Runway Safety Team (RST) Ms. Pricilla Cheong has also took this opportunity to share knowledge and experience concerning aircraft safety with explanations of what Foreign Object Debris (FOD) is and the potential sources of FOD as well as the consequences that might be caused by FOD. Cases of incident occurred before were reviewed to raise everyone’s situational awareness which at the same time accentuate the importance of immediate report of abnormal issues in preventing accident.
Many valuable views and suggestions were exchanged from online participants during the five webinar sessions. A total of 247 participants have joined the webinar from different airport entities included CAM, MSAR Government Airport Fire Fighting Service, Airport Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau, Big Four Facilities Management Company Limited, CTM, FOCUS Facilities Management Ltd., Brilliant Landscaping & Gardening Company Limited, Menzies Macau Airport Services Limited, Nam Kwong Petroleum & Chemicals Company Limited, SEMAC Security Company, Servair Macau, Sino Macau Business Aviation Center Ltd., TAG Aviation Asia (Macau), Air Macau, EVA Air, Air Asia, Fortuna Jet Aviation Company Ltd. and Macau Jet International Co. Ltd.
