CAM Representatives Attended The Tripartite Air Traffic Flow Management Technical Group Meeting

The Tripartite Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) technical group meeting among the Mainland of China, Hong Kong and Macau was held in Macau from 10th to 11th August 2023, with a total of 27 representatives and experts attended. Civil Aviation Authority of Macao SAR (AACM) hosted this meeting with full support from Air Traffic Services Division (ATS) of Operations Branch of Airport Operations Department of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM).
The meeting was held offline for the first time since the lifting of the epidemic restrictions. The meeting started with summarizing the work done by technical group last year, then followed by exchange of difficulties and issues faced by different parties including deviation coordination in thunderstorm weather, application for route change during typhoon, air traffic control electronic handover, allocation of code usage for Secondary Surveillance Radar transponders, air traffic capacity assessment and publication of restrictions, etc. The meeting also invited the system supplier to introduce in details of the National Air Traffic Flow Management System (NTFM) and its application in the Mainland of China. The representative of CAM introduced the need for Macau's airspace expansion and proposals for new helicopter waypoints and unidirectional routes. It is expected that Macau will join the NTFM system within this year and further improve both of the efficiency of flight release for MIA and passenger’s satisfaction level.
After the meeting, all the participants paid a visit to Macau International Airport and a discussion was held focusing on the airspace structure, control difficulties, types of airspace activities, the reclamation and expansion plan of MIA and the necessity for further improving ATC capacity etc.
