MIA 30th Anniversary Celebration Cocktail Successfully Concluded

Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) hosted a celebration cocktail reception on 4th December 2025 at MGM Cotai Macau, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the operation of Macau International Airport (MIA). Distinguished guests included Mr. Ho Hau Wah, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC); Mr. Tam Vai Man, Representative of the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) and Secretary for Transport and Public Works of the Macao SAR; Mr. Ma Iao Hang, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CAM; Mr. Ma Bing, Deputy Administrator of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC); Mr. Yang Quanzhou, Deputy Administrator-General of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Mr. Fu Aimin, Director of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao SAR. Nearly 400 attendees, including deputies to National People’s Congress, CPPCC members, representatives from friendly airports, aviation industry peers, and local dignitaries, gathered to witness this historic moment.

In his welcome speech, Mr. Ma Iao Hang, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CAM, reflected on the remarkable journey of Macau International Airport over the past 30 years. He noted that the airport officially commenced operations in 1995 under the witness of leaders from China and Portugal, marking a significant implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle and fulfilling the aspirations of countless Macau residents for aviation. It also demonstrated the central government's unwavering support for Macau's long-term prosperity and stability. Over the past three decades, Macau International Airport has adhered to the principles of “Safety, Efficiency, and Effectiveness”, continuously optimizing its facilities and service quality while actively integrating into the national development strategy and sustainable development initiatives. This reflects the commitment of MIA to social responsibility and its determination to strengthen its international image. Chairman Ma expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Central Government, the SAR Government, shareholders, employees and the broader community for their steadfast support, which has been a driving force behind the continuous progress of MIA. Looking ahead, Macau International Airport will be guided by a deep sense of patriotism and dedication to Macau, actively participating in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the national “Belt and Road” initiative. It will closely align with the SAR Government’s strategic plans to position Macau as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure. With ongoing innovation and a commitment to excellence, Macau International Airport will continue to soar, contributing to economic diversification and internationalization of Macau while fostering hope and pride in the community.

Mr. Tam Vai Man, Secretary for Transport and Public Works of Macao SAR attended on behalf of the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, and highlighted in his address that since its inauguration in 1995, Macau International Airport has consistently achieved new milestones in passenger and cargo throughput, continuously improving service quality and operational efficiency. MIA is not only a transportation hub, but also a strategic asset for appropriate economic diversification of Macau and integration into the national development framework, showcasing Macau’s role as a gateway for regional integration and internationalization. Secretary Tam noted that the SAR Government is actively advancing the construction of International Air Transport Hub on the West Bank of the Pearl River, while steadily progressing with initiative such as MIA Reclamation and Expansion Project and Hengqin Upstream Cargo Terminal Project. These efforts, combined with deepening cooperation between Macau and Zhuhai airports, will create a seamless logistics and travel option, further enhancing regional aviation competitiveness of Macau. Secretary Tam expressed special gratitude for the support of the Central Government and the contributions of all builders and partners. He urged Macau International Airport to seize opportunities in civil aviation development, fulfill its mission of connecting the world, and inject new momentum into appropriate economic diversification and international strategic development.

Mr. Ma Bing, Deputy Administrator of CAAC, extended his highest respect and sincere wishes to all individuals and organizations that have supported the development of civil aviation industry in Macau. He noted that over the past 3 decades, with the strong support of the Central Government, Macau’s civil aviation sector has flourished, serving as a vivid example of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle in action. In the 1990s, the Central Government strategically supported the construction of Macau International Airport, with the CAAC dispatching over 200 experts to participate in its planning, construction and operation, many of whom remained in Macau as industry leaders nowadays. Deputy Administrator Ma emphasized that since Macau’s return to the motherland 25 years ago, CAAC has consistently supported the Macau SAR in managing civil aviation affairs in accordance with the Basic Law, deepening cooperation in safety, flight standards, air traffic control, and talent development, thereby laying a solid foundation for the industry. Today, Macau International Airport has transformed from a reclamation marvel in the Lingding Bay into an international gateway handling nearly 10 million passengers, actively contributing to development of Macau as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, a platform for trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and a base for cultural exchange. Deputy Administrator Ma affirmed that CAAC will continue to support the high-quality development of civil aviation industry of Macau, guided by President Xi Jinping’s important speech on the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR and “the 15th Five-Year Plan” of the country. He expressed hope that Macau’s civil aviation sector would seize opportunities, leverage its unique advantages of being “backed by the motherland and connected to the world”, actively integrate into the national development framework, and embark on the next glorious 30-year journey.

Other distinguished guests attended the cocktail included Ms. Chan Hoi Fan, Director of the Public Assets Supervision and Administration Bureau of the Macao SAR; Mr. Pun Wa Kin, President of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Macao SAR; Ms. Pansy Ho, Shareholder of CAM and Executive Director of STDM; Mr. Chan Weng Hong, Chairman of the Executive Committee of CAM; and Ms. Ho Silvestre In Mui, Chairman of the Supervisory Committee of CAM.
