CNS System Replacement Project of Macau International Airport Officially Commences
On 10th February 2026, the kick-off meeting for the “CNS System Replacement Project of Macau International Airport” was successfully held, marking the official commencement of a key project aimed at upgrading the airport's infrastructure and enhancing its aviation service capabilities.
Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM), as the holder of the Aerodrome Certificate and Air Traffic Services Certificate issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), have always attached great important to the construction and upgrading of the air traffic control systems, upholding the three core values of "Safety, Efficiency and Effectiveness", continuously invest in advanced technology, always committed to ensuring the safe operation of aviation activities.
The existing CNS system has maintained good operating conditions since it was put into operation in 2009. With the continuous development of the aviation industry, to better support the high-quality development of civil aviation industry in Macau, ensure that future capacity of ATM in conformity with the airport expansion project, improve operational efficiency and ensure operational safety, CAM has established a dedicated CNS project team responsible for coordinating and planning the overall replacement of the CNS system. Subsequently, through tender procurement processes, CAM hired a professional design company in the civil aviation field to carry out a comprehensive overall design process for the project, along with a project management and supervision company to provide technical support services throughout the project. At the beginning of this year, the Contractor for executing the overall replacement project was confirmed. Moving forward, CAM will systematically advance the comprehensive upgrade and replacement of more than ten core systems including: Tower Automation System, VHF Radio Communication Systems, Digital ATC Systems, MLAT Systems, ADS-B Systems, AWOS and Navigation Aids etc. and put them into operation in sequence. Support the deep integration of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, creating a safe, efficient, and green modern international airport, while consolidating the strategic position of Macau International Airport as the International Aviation Transportation Hub of the West Pearl River Delta. The Replacement Project is expected to be completed by early 2029.
After the project kick-off meeting, Mr. Chan Weng Hong, Chairman of the Executive Committee of CAM, together with all members of the Executive Committee and the CAM CNS project team, attended the kick-off ceremony organized by the project contractor, “Chinney Alliance Engineering Limited”. Representatives from the Civil Aviation Authority of Macao SAR, LECM, and units involved in project management, supervision, and design team were invited to attend wishing the project goes smoothly, to further enhance the overall operational efficiency of the airport.
