Macau International Airport has broken through 5 million passengers!

For such a great news! Macau International Airport Co. Ltd held a “Welcome the 5 Million Passengers Ceremony” yesterday. The lucky passenger arrived at 11.15AM by Air Macau NX825 departed from Seoul, Korea to Macau and had a warm welcome by Dr. Deng Jun, Chairman of the Board of Directors of  Macau International Airport Co. Ltd,  Ms. Suning Liu, Executive Director of Macau International Airport Co. Ltd, Mr. Simon Chan, President of Civil Aviation Authority of Macau, Mr. Manual Pires, Deputy Director of Macau Government Tourist Office, Mr. Jose Carlos Angeja, Director of Administration of Airports Ltd., Mr. David H. J. Fei, CEO of Air Macau Company Limited and representatives from Nam Kwong-Petroleum & Chemicals Co. Ltd., Menzies Macau Airport Services Ltd., Macau Catering Services Co. Ltd. and King Power Duty Free (Macau) Co. Ltd..

The lucky passenger was awarded a certificate and free usage of Airport VIP Lounge from Dr. Deng Jun, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Macau International Airport Co. Ltd, a Grand Prix 50th Anniversary silver coin from Mr. Manual Pires, Deputy Director of Macau Government Tourist Office and two sets of free business class round trip tickets from Mr. David H. J. Fei, CEO of Air Macau Company Limited.

Ms. Suning Liu, Executive Director of CAM, Macau International Airport Co. Ltd expressed a warm welcome to our lucky passenger and some of the future development plans of Macau International Airport. She pointed out that when the "Macau International Airport Facilities Moderate Expansion Project" from Netherlands renowned professional international airport planning and development firm – NACO is completed the annual Macau International Airport passenger volume would be double up to 12 million. If the process of the planned preliminary work proceeds smoothly , in the next two years (2008 and 2009), the first phase of the project of the airport terminal building " Commercial Area Development Project " and "South Extension project" will be completed.

After the "Commercial Area Development Project" is completed, the size of the shops and dinning area in the departure level will be doubled to 2627 m² and 3163 m² respectively and the Mezzanine area will be increased to 1855 m². The plan’s contents include improving of the existing shops in the departure level also opening approximately 26 more of bookstores, electronic products stores and other goods shops, five sale kiosks and a few convenient stores The dinning area will be reconstructed into six different kinds of food categories. The original two independent VIP lounge area will be expanded to seven.

By the time the " South Extension project " is completed, the Departure hall area will be expanded to 9450 m²; from original six boarding gates to 12, also adding in six mobile gates, which can significantly increase efficiency during rushing hours. Flight handling capacity from 16 movements per hour up to 28 movements. In addition, the future parking building’s construction area will be 37500 m², providing 1000 parking spaces, 10 large coach parking spaces and 50 minibus parking spaces.

Ms. Suning Liu also expressed that when the projects are completed, it will be able to relief some of the pressure and high demand created by the MICE industry and at the same time providing the most convenient service and the best experience for the visitors.

The ceremony had great support from Civil Aviation Authority of Macau, Macau Government Tourist Office, Airlines, Airport operators, and other relevant organizations. The Macau Government Tourist Office also arranged some performances at the ceremony mixed both the Portuguese and Chinese characteristics. In addition, King Power Duty Free (Macau) Co. Ltd. offered the cash vouchers for all the passengers on that flight.
