CAM Holds Urgent Board Meeting to Pass the Airline Relief Policy

2020 / 04 / 09

Being affected by the outbreak of COVID-19, the demand of aviation market has dropped, some countries have imposed entry restriction to tourists, flights have been cancelled and reduced as to minimize the movement of people, which caused direct impact on the aviation industry, especially the passenger market. Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) has held Urgent Board Meeting on 9th April, 2020, and passed the relief policy to airlines, hoping to alleviate their operating pressure brought by the epidemic.

In order to encourage the airlines to continue providing air transportation services and to express our support for the resumption of flights in the future, CAM plans to reduce the landing and takeoff fees for the three-month period from 1st Feb until 30th Apr of 2020 for the qualified airlines (not including business aviation, general aviation, aerial work, helicopters and full cargo flights). The total relief budget approved is about MOP 19 million.

The aviation industry cooperated with the SAR government's relevant epidemic prevention measures during the epidemic, the aviation market encountered much influence. The relationship between airlines and Macau International Airport (MIA) was interdependent.  In response to the epidemic, CAM has promptly established a contingency working group in January to give pivotal instructions, and has suggested the Airport Pricing Committee to introduce various incentive plans to boost the market; it is hoped that under the current severe operating environment, we will be able to overcome the difficult times with airlines.
