CAM Held Board Meeting to Pass the Second Round of Relief Policy to Airlines and Airport Operators

2020 / 07 / 07

Due to the continuous impact of COVID-19, the demand of aviation market remains weak, some countries and regions still imposing entry restriction to tourists, flights have been cancelled and reduced as to minimize the movement of people, which caused direct impact on the aviation industry.  Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) held the Board Meeting today on 3rd July 2020. After the first round of relief policy was announced on April of this year, the second round of relief policy targeting to airlines and airport operators were approved, hoping to alleviate their operating pressure and difficulties brought by the epidemic.

In order to encourage the airlines to continue providing air transportation services and to express our support for the resumption of flights in the future, CAM plans to reduce part of the landing and takeoff fees for the three-month period from 1st May until 31st Jul of 2020 for the qualified airlines (not including business aviation, general aviation, aerial work, helicopters and full cargo flights). In such difficult operation environment, CAM releases the second round of relief policy to reduce some of the categories of fees for the period from 1st May until 31st Jul of 2020 for the qualified operators occupying certain areas in the airport.

The aviation industry cooperated with the SAR government's relevant epidemic prevention measures during the epidemic, the aviation market encountered much influence. The relationship among airlines, airport operators and Macau International Airport (MIA) was interdependent.  In response to the epidemic, CAM has promptly established a contingency working group in January to give pivotal instructions, and has suggested the Airport Pricing Committee to introduce various incentive plans to boost the market.  It is hoped that under the current severe operating environment, we will be able to overcome the difficult times together.  At the same time, CAM has been engaged in an active preparation for the business recovery in regards to passenger, cargo and business jets market, F&B and retail services, information & technology development as well as the airport operations, in order to pull back the development to its orbit as soon as possible.
