The South Extension project at Macau International Airport (MIA) Passenger Terminal Building has been completed with the installation of three passenger loading bridges recently. At the same time, the progress of the South Extension project has been completed over 60%. Besides the completed foundation and main structure construction, external structure, construction of façade system and interior partition, installation of pipework and ductwork, and MEP equipment have been ongoing accordingly. The entire project is estimated to be completed in 4th Quarter of 2021 under normal situation.

The 3-storey South Extension Building with a total area of over 18,000 square metres will comprise of immigration hall, departure lounge, commercial area, offices, prayer room, entertainment room and conference rooms. Also three additional loading bridges will be provided to accommodate either 3 aircrafts (two Code E & one Code C) or 4 aircrafts (one Code E & three Code C). Hence, a total of eight loading bridges will be in operation upon completion of the project to satisfy the future passenger volume.

Design work for PTB South Extension Building started in 2019. The design not only fulfills the Macau construction specifications but also follows the airport design guidelines of International Air Transport Association (IATA) to evaluate the efficiency of the facilities and services. The South Extension Building will be seamlessly integrated with the existing Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) to provide consistency and integrity in architectural appearance of both interior and exterior of the building to provide passenger quality airport service. The South Extension project at MIA Passenger Terminal Building has been under construction in an orderly manner since the commencement on 11th March 2020. The topping out ceremony has been held on 8th February 2021. As the project completed, the annual passenger handling capacity of PTB will be expected to increase significantly from 7.8 million to 10 million.
