Macau International Airport Renewed ACI Airport Health Accreditation

Macau International Airport (MIA) has successfully renewed its Airport Health Accreditation in November 2021, first awarded by Airport Council International (ACI) a year ago, in recognition of MIA’s commitment to prioritizing health and safety measures in accordance with ICAO Council Aviation Restart Task Force (CART) recommendations and in alignment with the ACI Aviation Business Restart and Recovery guidelines along with industry best practices.

The COVID-19 has brought severe threats to global aviation industry, passenger’s confidence on travelling has been adversely impacted. Thus, public health turns to be crucial in all communities during the pandemic. For this Macau International Airport and its respective service providers are always strictly working in compliance with all the health measures imposed by the Macau SAR government. The Airport has also established various sets of guidance, protocols and plans that align with the industry’s best practice, aiming to operate safely and react fast when dealing with unpredictable circumstances.

Hygiene and health are critical factors in operating under the pandemic environment, the four major aspects evaluated in the ACI’s program this year were the Airport’s COVID Plan, Passenger Protection, Staff Protection and Stakeholder Collaboration.  Macau International Airport has submitted information which included guidance on operation of the terminal buildings, cleaning and disinfection procedures, preventive measures for passenger’s health, training information, communications with the regulatory bodies and stakeholders, Airport staff protection, etc.  Information submitted to ACI is sufficiently comprehensive, and MIA also introduced ACI the procedures when air-transport resumes, by sharing the airport’s resumption plan.  Macau International Airport was accredited successfully once again until November 2022.

The accreditation of Macau International Airport was a concerted effort of all stakeholders, namely the Civil Aviation Authority (AACM), the Health Bureau (SSM) and its Centre for Prevention and Disease Control (CDC), Macau Public Security Police(CPSP) Airport Station, SEMAC Security Company, the cleaning and sanitary subcontractor (East Sun) and all the sub-concessionaires involved in the safe, secure and efficient provision of services for the arrival and departure of aircraft as well as handling of passengers.

The Airport would also like to express its appreciation to all airport staff, their continuous efforts and professionalism made the renewal of the Airport Health Accreditation possible and smooth.  The Airport will continue to provide safe and sanitary environment to passengers, users and the community.
