Macau International Airport Took Precautionary Measures Against Typhoon According to Emergency Plan
The tropical cyclone warning and storm surge warning has issued by the Macao Geophysics and Meteorological Bureau (SMG), and the typhoon signal No. 3 was hoisted in Macau at 2:00 am on 1st July 2022. Macau International Airport has a comprehensive emergency response plan for the hoisting of typhoon signal No. 3 or above. Corresponding measures have been prepared according to the current situation, which included notifying airlines and ground handling operators of the weather conditions and required the aircrafts to be moved into the hangar or fly away from Macau International Airport. Aircrafts that cannot leave MIA or parked in the hangar must be properly tied down on the apron before the typhoon signal No. 8 is hoisted, and no aircraft shall be parked at adjacent stand for safety. MIA coordinated ground handling service provider to remove all ground equipment not necessary for operation from the apron to the cargo building and to secure all heavy equipment held in open area. Gates of cargo warehouse have been tested in normal operation. Supervision and coordination of the Regular Maintenance Subcontractor (MSC) to remove tools and equipment from the worksite on airside was carried out. Ground service operator was inspected and notified to secure the baggage containers. Follow-me was arranged to perform movement area inspection according to the related procedure so as to locate if objects are blown by wind.
At the same time, the Flight Information Display Systems (FIDS) in terminal building has been updating with a timely manner in accordance with the weather conditions and the latest flight information, so that passengers could be informed of the latest situation. Macau International Airport maintains close contact with the Aviation Meteorological Center of SMG, and timely informs and coordinates with airlines and ground handling service providers for relevant situation and preparations. MIA will also coordinate with the Fire Services Bureau Airport Division (DBA) and relevant operating units to implement preparedness measures according to airport emergency plan to ensure the safety of personnel and operations of Macau International Airport during the hoisting of typhoon.
