With the arrival of the Year of the Horse, the 2026 Chinese New Year period brought a noticeable boost in traffic to Macau International Airport (MIA), creating a lively and bustling ambiance in the Terminal. Between 14th and 23rd February of the festive holidays, MIA welcomed 267,235 passengers and handled 1,943 flight movements, representing an increase of 11% and 9% respectively over the same period in 2025. The peak in passenger traffic occurred on the 21st and 22nd February of the Chinese New Year, with daily passenger numbers reaching 29,000 and 28,000 respectively.

The analysis of the overall market structure during the CNY season showed that passengers from the Mainland of China routes accounted for 43% of total passenger volume, while international routes accounted for 39% and routes to China Taiwan accounted for 18%.

To manage peak passenger and flight traffic during the CNY, approximately 60 additional flights have been added on routes to and from Southeast Asia. MIA has actively coordinated with various departments to ensure smooth operations and guarantee the orderly running of flights during CNY. To facilitate passenger convenience, MIA offered a 50% discount on parking fees for five consecutive days from 13th to 23rd February to respond to passenger travel demands. MIA continues to implement multiple incentive schemes to encourage airlines to increase international passenger capacity and launch new routes. These initiatives aim to comprehensively enhance service quality, steadily drive passenger traffic growth and jointly support the sustainable development of the tourism market.
