SEA and North Asian Routes driving the market, MIA passenger recorded 6% up in Q1, 2015
The first quarter of 2015, Macau International Airport (MIA) daily average traffic reached 15,000 passengers and 150 flight movements. Passenger traffic volume recorded more than 1.36 million with an increase of 6%; flight movements over 13,000 with an increase of 8%. In the first quarter, MIA successfully introduced Xiamen Airlines to launch Jinan route; Air China also launched Beijing route; China Southern Airlines will launch Wuhan- Macau route on 3rd April 2015; Taiwan's Low-Cost Airline– V Air, also hasplans to enter Taiwan - Macau market on 10th April 2015; while Air Macau expressed that they are planning to increase the flight frequencies of the East Asian routes in the first half year. Palau is becoming a hot travel destination, attracting another new airline submitted the application to the relevant authorities for using the fifth freedom rights, to operate Macau to Palau route. The overall traffic performance of the first quarter still maintained satisfactory as a result of the opening of new routes and the significant growth of 20% from East Asian routes passenger volume.
Looking ahead, Jetstar Pacific Airlines announced that they are planning to launch the routes from Ho Chi Minh and Nha Trang to Macau in July; in addition,MIA is working with a potential Japanese airline to explore the possibility of launching Macau route later this year.
