Aircraft Validation for the Designed Runway 16 Public RNP AR Flight Procedures for Macau International Airport

2018 / 08 / 13

The aircraft validation for the designed Runway 16 public RNP AR flight procedures for Macau International Airport (MIA) was formally launched in the morning of 7th August 2018 at 7:00 am. Such on-site validation was performed by the G450 (Gulf Stream) of B8099 from China Civil Aviation Administration Flight Inspection Centre.  After nearly one hour flight verification and validation, three pre-planned scenario of the designed procedures had been fully verified and validated. On August 8th, the Flight Inspection Center submitted an official validation report to the Airport Operation Department (AOD) of the Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM). The validation results showed that the related design procedures were fully met the standard requirements on the ICAO 9906 Document. The validation aircraft was under the full Radar coverage during the whole process in the air, the flight track was accurate, the pilot was easy to follow the procedure and control the aircraft, and the flight banking angle was much less than that from the designed specification. There was no terrain warning and alerts (TAWS). The fly-ability for the designed procedures was very high and completely met the design objectives.

The Runway 16 public RNP AR flight Procedures at MIA, designed by NAVBLUE of an Airbus owned Company, was successfully validated at the flight simulator of the Hua-ao Airbus Training Center in Beijing in February this year. Followed the successful aircraft validation on-site this time, the Runway 16 public RNP AR Procedure Design Project, which began in March 2016, was marked to the end phrase.  AOD will submit the whole package of the RNP AR Procedures to AACM for approval next week. We hope that such procedure can be approved and published by the end of September or the beginning of October. The effective date for such procedure will be estimated at the beginning of next year.

We believe that with the official use of the Runway 16 Public RNP AR Procedure at the airport, the operating weather minimum for Runway 16 will be reduced by half, greatly improving the operating efficiency for Runway 16. Meanwhile, the related missed approaches from Runway 16 will be reduced by more than 90%, and the flight safety level will also be improved further.
