“4th China and Portuguese Speaking Countries Airports Conference – Macau 2013”, a distinguished gathering for the civil aviation industry of Mainland China, Portuguese speaking countries and Macau, was grandly open in Grand Hyatt Macau at 10am on 25thSeptember 2013. It is organized by Macau international Airport Co. Ltd. (CAM), co-organized by the Macau SAR Civil Aviation Authority (AACM) and Institute of Macau Civil Association (IMCA). The Conference will continue till 26thSeptember, 2013. Macau International Airport (MIA)’s innovation will then be applied, create opportunities for new cooperation and development in airport management, construction, operation and aviation transport.

Same as the previous three conferences, many representatives from international civil aviation organization, administrative departments, airports and heads in aviation industry from Mainland China and Portuguese speaking countries (Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique Portugal and East Timor) attended the Conference, with the local participants from AACM and civil aviation industry exchanged experience to explore cooperate opportunities among Mainland China, Macau and Portuguese speaking countries.

Dr. Deng Jun - Chairman of the Executive Committee of CAM noted in his opening speech that, “the development of Macau civil aviation industry has always been supporting in the policy of the Central Government while Macau SAR Government pays much attention on as well. The SAR Government invested over MOP2 billion into the civil aviation industry last year, committed to drive local industry development and pay close attention to its future long term development plan.”

After the welcome speech by Mr. Simon Chan – Director of Macau SAR Civil Aviation Authority and Dra. Rita Botelho dos Santos-Deputy Secretary-General of Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries (Macau), officiating guests presided over the opening ceremony, under the witness of representatives from CAM and its subsidiaries, China civil aviation management units, hub airports from the Mainland China, Pearl River Delta five airports, sister airports, Civil Aviation Authority and airports from Portuguese speaking countries, as well as Secretary of the Secretariat of the Conference. The officiating guests pull the joysticks on the stage together as a kick off to the “4th China and Portuguese Speaking Countries Airports Conference – Macau 2013”. Officiating guests includeMr. Ma Iao Hang - Chairman of the Board of Directors of CAM, Ms. Qiu Hong -Deputy Director of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government ofMacau SAR, Mr. Lu Shumin-Executive Vice President of The Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Zhang Jinfeng, Deputy Commissioner of Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Macau SAR, Mr. Liu Zijing- Director General of China Civil Airports Association, Mr. Simon Chan-President of Macau SAR Civil Aviation Authority, Ms. Suning Liu-Director General of Institute of Macau Civil Aviation, Dr. Marcelo Pedro D’ Almeida - Deputy Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat to the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macau) and Mr. Hou Kan-North Asia Regional Head, APCS ofInternational Air Transport Associations.

There are four discussion themes in the Conference:

  1. “Air Traffic Control Coordinatiion and Challenges”, moderated by Mr. Antonio Barros – the Airport Director and speakers include Mr. Kevin Lam Hin San - Director of Airport Infrastructure & Air Navigation of AACM, Eng. Luis Coimbra - President / CEO of NAV Navegação Aérea de Portugal E.P.E., Mr. Sabino Henriques - Manager of ATS from Aviação Civil Timor Leste, East Timor.
  2.  “Airport Sustainability”, moderated by Ms. Suning Liu – President of the Board of ADA-Administration of Airports Ltd. and speakers are Mr. Zhang Musheng - Deputy General Manager of Beijing Capital Airport Group Company, China, Mr. Gualdim Carvalho - Technical Services Director of ANA Aeroportos de Portuga, S.A., Dr. Manuel Pereira Gustavo Ferreira de Ceita - President of the Board of ENANA Empresa Nacional de Aeroportos e Navegação Aérea, Angola and Mr. Hou Kan - Regional Head of Airport, Passenger and Cargo Services of IATA North Asia.
  3. “Growing of Business Aviation” moderated by Mr. Cui Guang - Senior Assistant to the Chairman of Executive Committee of CAM cum Director of Logistic and General Aviation Development Department, with speakers include Mr. Brandon O'Reilly - CEO of TAG Farnborough Airport, Great Britain; Mr. Franco Kwan - Deputy Director of Logistic & General Aviation Development Department of CAM and Captain Scott Macpherson - C.E.O. & President of TrainingPort.net, Canada.
  4.  “Collaboration and Innovation to Enhance Business” in the morning on 26thSeptember, moderated by Dr. Pierre Coutu – A.A.E., Ed.D. President of Aviation Strategies International, with speakers include Mr. Carlos Gutierres - the Commercial Director for Non-Aviation Activities of ANA Aeroportos de Portugal S.A., Ms. Winnie Hsu - Director of Commercial Development Department of CAM, Mr. Marcénio e Gomes Mansoa - Chief of Administration and Finance Service of ASECNA, Guinea-Bissau, Ms. Palmira Francisco Chilundo - Membro do Conselho of ADM Aeroporto de Moçambique, and Mr. Eric Fong - Director of Marketing Department of CAM, seeking business opportunities on various aspects.

In order to coordinate with the policy of Macau SAR Government, previous three conferences were successfully held which can fully elaborate Macau’s role as a platform for economy and trade collaboration between China and Portuguese speaking countries. With the historical friendship and relationship between China and Portuguese speaking countries, Macau International Airport upholds to promote trade cooperation and communication platform, also served as a positive pioneer in the long term cooperation amongst.

This year,  with the strengthening role as a platform between Mainland China and Portuguese speaking airports, MIA has been continuing with the exploration of cooperation scope. We invited renowned companies in the field of aviation, along with senior staff members from airline companies to have deeper understanding on the status of the aviation industry and its future development. Participants are expected to have lively discussions and exchanged ideas on different themes. We believe that this Conference was of considerable importance to the aviation industry.
