2022 / 09 / 21

The 20th EAAA Annual Meeting hosted by Capital Airports Holdings Limited was held on 20th September, 2022 in the form of an online conference. Executives from 13 EAAA member airports have presented in this occasion.  Executive Directors of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) Mr. Chu Tan Neng and Mr. Lei Si Tai attended the video Conference.

The theme of this conference was “Outlook for Airport Business Recovery in the Post-Pandemic Era”.  The leaders and representatives of each airport spoke on the above topics and made suggestions.  Since the end of 2019, the outbreak of the new coronavirus has spread rapidly around the world, causing an unprecedented huge impact on the civil aviation industry. At present, the global epidemic is still ongoing.  Airports around the world must continue to face the risks and challenges brought about by the epidemic, but also must think through the pain and think about new ideas for airport development under the normalization of the epidemic, expand the route network, broaden the market development channels, enhance the public's travel confidence, and contribute wisdom and strength to the recovery of industry development as soon as possible and efforts to turn losses and increase profits.

Mr. Frank Wu, Director of Logistic & General Aviation Development Department of CAM reported the positioning and strategy of MIA in logistics development, analyzed the geographical advantages, aviation agreements, cargo facilities, mature and efficient cargo management and security monitoring systems of Macau International Airport (MIA).  The business of freighter service has developed steadily during the epidemic, and the cargo volume transported by freighters between 2020 and 2021 has increased significantly, accounting for 71% and 79% of the total cargo volume.  As the General Plan for Construction of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin was issued by the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and State Council on Sept 5, 2021.  Clarified the implementation scope and strategic positioning of the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone, Sci-tech research and high-end manufacturing will be developed.  In the future, as a production base for high-end manufacturing industries, Hengqin will have certain requirements and standards for the import and export of air cargo.  MIA has an innate geographical advantage. In addition, the 24-hour customs clearance of goods between Hengqin and Macau has been implemented, MIA is capable of being a logistics site for Hengqin product output.  It is believed that as the aviation industry in Macau opens up the market to introduce competition in 2023, the cargo at MIA will be further developed.  In the post-epidemic era, the air cargo industry will show great potential for development driven by the continuous development of the cross-border e-commerce.  The airport will continue to optimize existing facilities and related processes, improve service levels, and meet industry development needs, under the condition of comprehensive management of resources and environment, the comprehensive ability and competitiveness of airport operation can be directly improved, to create a convenient logistics channel between Guangdong and Macao, and connect all parts of the world.

In the meeting, Japan Airport Terminal Co., Ltd was selected as the host for the meeting of next year.  Through this online platform, all participants shared their valuable experience and their latest developments which motivate the development and improvement of each other.  Other participants from CAM included Ms. Vicki Mou - Director of Corporate Communication and Policy Research Office (CPO) and Ms. Adrina Ho – Deputy Director of CPO.
