MIA Staff Join Sign Language Training

Invited by the Macao Social Welfare Bureau (IAS), Macau International Company Limited (CAM), together with Menzies Macau Airport Services and SEMAC Security Company, sent a total of 20 frontline airport employees to participate the “Frontline of Public Utilities Organizations” organized by IAS from 5th to 7th November 2020.  The course was instructed by a sign language interpreter from Macau Association of Hearing Impaired. It was arranged at the Saint Domingos Activity Centre and lasted for 6 hours.

Sign language is a language that uses visual gestures, body movements, and facial expressions to convey meaning. It is a common communication method used by the hearing impaired in daily life. This course is conducted in the form of experimental teaching. In addition to the teaching of basic communication skills and principles with the hearing impaired, it also simulates dialogue and interaction with the hearing impaired, allowing students to learn daily language and related airport business sign language in a relaxed atmosphere.

The training effect is very positive. Through this sign language course, the airport frontline staffs are able to learn sign language; and the basic skills of communicating with the hearing impaired; thus to improve the professionalism and service quality of the airport staffs while provide appropriate assistance for the hearing impaired when they arrive at the airport and promote the inclusive society.
